ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Just in time for Halloween, renowned paranormal researcher John E.L. Tenney and the What’s Up Weirdo podcast have unveiled Michigan’s Top 10 Most Haunted Cities. Whether you’re a ghost hunter seeking your next thrill or someone hoping to avoid the supernatural, this list highlights the places where eerie encounters are most likely to happen.
This year Ann Arbor claims the top spot—an unsurprising result for those immersed in Michigan’s haunted history.
“The list has something for both believers and skeptics—living or otherwise,” says Tenney, a veteran paranormal investigator, national lecturer, and founder of Weird Lectures. His research is based on historical records, news reports, personal accounts, and community submissions. “People aren’t just interested in ghost stories; they use these experiences to connect with their neighbors and build a shared local history,” he adds.
Each city on the list has a rich past, making them fascinating to explore beyond just their ghostly reputations. Tenney encourages Michiganders to experience these haunted destinations firsthand through self-guided walking tours, a fun and immersive way to absorb the atmosphere.
While some homeowners may worry about their city’s paranormal reputation, Tenney reassures them: “The real fear isn’t ghosts—it’s whether this list will affect property values. But in reality, researchers and scientists would pay anything to study a truly haunted house.”
